Defense Mechanism
A defense mechanism is an unconscious mental process that helps protect a person from feeling anxious, stressed, or uncomfortable. When faced with difficult emotions or situations, the mind automatically uses these strategies to reduce distress, often by distorting reality or avoiding certain feelings. Examples include denying problems, blaming others, or rationalizing actions. While they can provide temporary relief, relying too much on defense mechanisms may prevent someone from addressing issues directly. They are a natural part of human psychology, helping us cope with challenges, but awareness is key to managing them effectively.
