Defense Mapping Agency (DMA)
The Defense Mapping Agency (DMA) was a U.S. government organization responsible for providing accurate and detailed geographic and mapping information for military and intelligence operations. It created precise maps, charts, and geospatial data crucial for navigation, planning, and tactical decisions worldwide. In 1997, DMA was integrated into the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency (NGA), which now handles these functions. Essentially, DMA ensured military forces had reliable, up-to-date geographic information to operate effectively and safely in various environments.
