Deepwater Horizon oil spill response
The Deepwater Horizon oil spill response involved multiple efforts to contain and clean up the massive underwater oil leak that began in April 2010. Responders used emergency containment systems, like caps and collection chambers, to capture leaking oil. Containment booms and skimming devices were deployed on the water surface to prevent oil from spreading. Chemical dispersants were applied to break up oil slicks, aiding natural biodegradation. Additionally, cleanup crews worked alongshore to remove oil from beaches and wildlife habitats. The goal was to minimize environmental damage, control the spill, and eventually seal the well permanently.
