Deep sea carbon storage is a natural and man-made process where carbon dioxide (CO₂) is stored permanently in the deep ocean. CO₂ can be captured from sources like power plants and injected into deep ocean layers, where high pressure and low temperatures help it turn into a dense, stable fluid called supercritical CO₂. This prevents it from escaping back into the atmosphere, reducing greenhouse gases and mitigating climate change. The deep ocean acts as a large, long-term sink for carbon, but careful management is needed to avoid environmental impacts.
