Deci & Ryan
Deci and Ryan are psychologists known for their Self-Determination Theory, which explains what motivates us. They suggest that people are most motivated when three basic needs are met: autonomy (feeling in control of choices), competence (feeling effective and capable), and relatedness (feeling connected to others). When these needs are fulfilled, individuals tend to be more engaged, productive, and satisfied. Their theory is widely used to understand motivation in education, workplaces, sports, and personal growth, emphasizing that intrinsic motivation—doing something because it is inherently rewarding—is crucial for well-being and optimal performance.
