Debye Shielding
Debye shielding is a phenomenon that occurs in plasmas or conductive materials, where charged particles (like electrons) rearrange themselves to reduce the electric field from a charged object. When a charge is placed in a plasma, surrounding charges move in response, creating a shielding effect that weakens the electric field beyond a certain distance. This means that the influence of the original charge is reduced in the surrounding area, making the environment around the charge less electrically charged. Essentially, it’s a way that charged particles protect each other from having an overwhelming electric influence.
