debris flows

Debris flows are fast-moving, slurry-like mixtures of water, soil, rocks, and debris that flow down slopes, typically after heavy rainfall or rapid snowmelt. They behave like a flowing liquid but contain large, coarse materials, making them highly destructive. These flows can travel quickly through valleys and channels, destroying anything in their path, including homes, roads, and natural landscapes. They often originate on unstable or steep terrain, especially when saturated with water, and are a significant natural hazard in mountainous or hilly regions.
