Debordism
Debordism refers to the ideas of Guy Debord, a Marxist theorist and filmmaker, who critiqued modern society's obsession with superficial appearances and media-driven images. He argued that in contemporary life, authentic human experiences are replaced by a "spectacle"—a mediated world of images and representations—leading to social alienation. Debord believed this constant spectacle diminishes genuine connection and understanding, fostering passive consumption rather than active engagement. His ideas challenge us to question how media and consumer culture shape perceptions and to seek more authentic, meaningful interactions beyond surface appearances.
