Deafhood
Deafhood is a concept that acknowledges Deaf identity as a rich cultural experience, distinct from viewing deafness solely as a medical condition. It emphasizes the importance of Deaf culture, language (such as sign language), and community. Instead of focusing on "fixing" deafness, Deafhood encourages understanding and embracing Deafness as a unique and valuable way of life, fostering pride, connection, and self-determination among Deaf people. It challenges societal perceptions that view deafness as a disability, promoting respect for Deaf culture and the rights of Deaf individuals to define their own identities.
