Dayabhaga School
The Dayabhaga school is one of two major legal systems for inheritance in Hindu law, primarily followed in Bengal. It was founded by the scholar Jimutavahana and focuses on ancestral and individual property rights. Under this system, inheritance depends on whether a person has surviving children, and it emphasizes the importance of direct lineage. The Dayabhaga school generally grants the property to the heirs of the deceased directly, with less emphasis on ancestral joint family property, contrasting with the Mitakshara school. It provides clear rules for succession, ensuring rightful heirs receive their inheritance in an orderly manner.
