David Vetter (Bubble Boy)

David Vetter, known as the "Bubble Boy," was a boy born with severe combined immunodeficiency (SCID), a rare genetic disorder that leaves the immune system unable to fight infections. To protect him from germs, he lived in a sterile, sealed environment—like a bubble—where he was protected from exposure. His condition meant even common illnesses could be fatal. Eventually, a bone marrow transplant from his sister helped improve his immune function, but his case highlighted the challenges of living with SCID and the importance of infection control and advances in medical treatment.
