David Unaipon

David Unaipon was an Aboriginal Australian inventor, author, and public speaker, born in 1872. He is best known for his contributions to science and technology, particularly his work on a revolutionary sheep shearing machine and his insights into the principles of flight, which inspired the design of the helicopter. Unaipon also played a crucial role in promoting Indigenous culture and is celebrated for his literary works that reflect Aboriginal spirituality and storytelling traditions. He was the first Aboriginal man to publish a book in English, and he is often regarded as a significant figure in Australian history.
