David Procedure
The David procedure is a type of surgery used to repair the aortic valve, often when it's leaky or diseased, without removing the valve itself. Surgeons preserve the patient's own valve and rebuild the supporting structures to restore normal function. This involves replacing the damaged part of the aorta (the main blood vessel) with a synthetic tube and then carefully sewing the patient's existing valve back into place, maintaining its natural function. The goal is to improve blood flow, reduce the need for lifelong blood-thinning medication, and preserve the valve's natural ability to open and close properly.
