
David Driskell
David Driskell was an influential American artist, scholar, and curator known for his work celebrating African American culture and history. Born in 1931, he created powerful paintings, prints, and murals that highlighted Black experiences and traditions. As a scholar, he studied and preserved African American art and heritage, helping to recognize its importance within American art history. Driskell also founded the Center for the Study of African American Art at the University of Maryland. His work and leadership significantly advanced the visibility and appreciation of African American contributions to art and culture.
