Datagram Networks

Datagram networks are a type of data communication system where each data packet, called a datagram, is sent independently with its own destination address. Unlike connection-oriented networks, they do not establish a dedicated path beforehand. Each datagram is routed separately through the network, potentially taking different paths to reach the recipient. This method offers flexibility, robustness, and efficient handling of varying traffic, making it ideal for services like the internet. However, since packets can arrive out of order or be lost, additional mechanisms are often needed to ensure complete and accurate data reception.
