Data tape

A data tape is a type of storage used for saving large amounts of digital information. It consists of magnetic tape reels or cartridges that store data sequentially, much like a cassette tape for audio. Data tapes are often used for backup, archival purposes, and transferring large datasets because they offer high capacity and long-term stability at a lower cost compared to other storage media. Accessing data on a tape requires loading the tape into a tape drive and reading or writing sequentially, which makes them ideal for storing large volumes of information that do not need to be accessed frequently.
