DART buoys

DART (Deep-ocean Assessment and Reporting of Tsunamis) buoys are specialized ocean monitoring devices that detect and measure tsunamis in real time. They consist of a buoy floating on the ocean surface connected to a seafloor pressure sensor via a cable. When a tsunami passes, the pressure sensor detects changes in water level, transmitting data via satellite to warning centers. This early detection system helps provide timely alerts to coastal communities, allowing for evacuations and safety measures before the tsunami reaches shore, ultimately saving lives and reducing property damage.
