Dark Age

The Dark Age generally refers to a period of history characterized by decline in cultural and economic activity, often following the fall of a major civilization. In Europe, it typically describes the early medieval period after the fall of the Roman Empire, roughly from the 5th to 10th centuries. During this time, there was decreased record-keeping, less technological progress, and fewer written sources. It’s associated with instability and reduced learning, but also a time of transformation that eventually led to new societal structures, cultures, and revival of knowledge in later centuries.
