Dardanelles Strait
The Dardanelles Strait is a narrow, strategic waterway connecting the Aegean Sea to the Sea of Marmara in northwestern Turkey. It serves as a vital maritime gateway between the Mediterranean and Black Seas, facilitating international shipping. The strait is about 60 kilometers (37 miles) long and relatively shallow, making it crucial for trade and military movements. Its control has historically been significant due to its geopolitical importance, especially since it provides access to Turkey’s important city, Istanbul. The Dardanelles is also known for its historical significance, notably during World War I with the Gallipoli Campaign.
