Danish-German War

The Danish-German War, also known as the Second Schleswig War (1864), was a conflict between Denmark and Prussia (soon part of Germany) over the territories of Schleswig and Holstein. These regions had mixed Danish and German populations, and both Denmark and the German Confederation wanted control. Prussia and Austria formed an alliance to support German interests. Denmark fought to retain the territories but was defeated due to better-organized Prussian and Austrian forces. The war resulted in Denmark losing Schleswig and Holstein, which were then administered by the Austro-Prussian forces, shaping future territorial boundaries and fueling German national unification efforts.
