Dandakaranya

Dandakaranya is a large forested region spanning parts of central and eastern India, covering states like Odisha, Chhattisgarh, Maharashtra, and Andhra Pradesh. Historically, it has been known for its dense jungles and diverse wildlife. The name originates from ancient Indian texts, where "Danda" means punishment and "Karaṇa" refers to a forest, symbolizing a place of exile or penance. Today, it is also a designated development and rehabilitation area with tribal populations, forests, and mineral resources, playing a significant role in India's ecological and cultural landscape.
