Dambusters

The Dambusters refers to the Royal Air Force's 617 Squadron during World War II, famous for using specially designed bombs called "bouncing bombs." These bombs were aimed at breaching German dams in the Ruhr Valley to disrupt industrial production and flooding. The technique involved bouncing the bomb across the water’s surface to evade torpedo nets and then sinking close to the dam wall before exploding. The mission, led by Wing Commander Guy Gibson in 1943, was innovative and risky, showcasing advanced engineering and precision bombing strategies that significantly impacted the war effort.
