Dalit communities (India)
Dalit communities in India, often referred to as "Scheduled Castes," have historically faced social discrimination and marginalization within the caste system, which stratifies society based on hereditary social status. Traditionally considered outside the caste hierarchy, Dalits experienced exclusion from many social, economic, and political opportunities. Although legal protections and affirmative action have improved their conditions, challenges like discrimination and poverty persist. Dalits encompass diverse groups across India, working in various sectors, and are actively asserting their rights to equality, representation, and social justice within Indian society.
