D-Day (Operation Overlord)

D-Day, also known as Operation Overlord, was the Allied invasion of Nazi-occupied France on June 6,, 1944, during World War II. It was the largest amphibious military assault in history, involving thousands of ships, aircraft, and soldiers from the United States, Britain, Canada, and other Allied nations. The goal was to open a Western front against Germany, weaken their hold in Europe, and eventually push German forces back. The invasion took place on five beaches along Normandy and marked a turning point in the war, leading to the liberation of Western Europe from Nazi control.
