Czechoslovak People's Army
The Czechoslovak People's Army was the military force of Czechoslovakia from 1954 to 1990, established during the Communist era. It served as the country’s defense against external threats and was aligned with the Soviet Union’s military bloc. Comprising ground troops, air forces, and naval units, it was equipped with Soviet-designed weapons and training. The army also played a role in internal security and political control. After the fall of Communism, it was gradually dissolved, and its functions transitioned to the independent Czech and Slovak armies following the country’s peaceful split in 1993.
