Czechoslovak Federation

The Czechoslovak Federation was a political union formed in 1960 between Czechoslovakia's two main ethnic groups, Czechs and Slovaks. It was established to give both nations more self-governance within a single country, while still remaining part of a larger socialist state aligned with the Soviet Union. The federation aimed to balance the interests of the Czech and Slovak peoples, creating a federal system with shared federal institutions and separate national governments. This arrangement lasted until 1993, when Czechoslovakia peacefully split into the Czech Republic and Slovakia, two independent nations.
