Cytotoxins

Cytotoxins are substances produced by certain cells or organisms that have the ability to kill or damage other cells. They play a role in the immune system by helping to eliminate infected or abnormal cells, like cancer cells, and can also be used by bacteria or toxins to harm the host. Cytotoxins work by disrupting cell functions, damaging cell membranes, or triggering cell death. Their activity must be carefully controlled, as excessive or misdirected cytotoxin production can cause tissue damage and disease.
