cystectomy

Cystectomy is a surgical procedure to remove all or part of the urinary bladder, often performed to treat bladder cancer or other serious bladder conditions. During the operation, the surgeon carefully excises the affected bladder tissue. In cases where the bladder is removed entirely, the surgeon may create a new way for urine to exit the body, such as an internal pouch or connecting the ureters directly to the skin with a stoma. Recovery and ongoing management depend on the extent of the surgery and the patient's overall health, but cystectomy aims to eliminate or control disease while preserving urinary function as much as possible.
