Cyprus Buffer Zone

The Cyprus Buffer Zone, also known as the Green Line, is a demilitarized area that separates the Greek Cypriot south from the Turkish Cypriot north. Established in 1964 and expanded after the 1974 conflict, it serves as a neutral zone to prevent clashes and maintain peace between the two communities. The zone is monitored by the United Nations Peacekeeping Force to ensure stability, facilitate movement, and promote ongoing efforts toward reunification or resolution of the divided island. It functions as a physical and symbolic division, reflecting the longstanding political and ethnic division of Cyprus.
