Cyclone Nargis
Cyclone Nargis was a devastating tropical cyclone that struck Myanmar (Burma) in May 2008. It formed in the Bay of Bengal and made landfall on May 2, causing widespread destruction, particularly in the Irrawaddy Delta. The cyclone brought heavy rains, strong winds, and a storm surge that flooded coastal areas. It resulted in over 138,000 fatalities and left millions homeless, making it one of the deadliest cyclones in history. The disaster highlighted vulnerabilities in disaster preparedness and response systems in Myanmar, leading to international humanitarian aid efforts to support affected communities.
