Cyanosis
Cyanosis is a condition where the skin and mucous membranes develop a bluish tint due to low oxygen levels in the blood. Normally, blood carries oxygen from the lungs to body tissues, giving the skin a healthy pink color. When there’s insufficient oxygen, hemoglobin in the blood becomes deoxygenated and causes the bluish appearance. This can result from respiratory or cardiovascular problems, such as lung diseases, heart defects, or circulation issues. Cyanosis is often most noticeable around the lips, fingertips, or toes and indicates a need for medical evaluation to determine and treat the underlying cause.
