Cutaneous diphtheria

Cutaneous diphtheria is a skin infection caused by the bacteria Corynebacterium diphtheriae. It results in skin ulcers or sores that may be covered with a grayish membrane. The infection spreads through breaks in the skin, often via direct contact with infected sores or contaminated objects. While it primarily affects the skin, it can sometimes lead to more serious health issues if the bacteria or their toxins enter the bloodstream. The condition is preventable through appropriate vaccination, good hygiene, and prompt treatment with antibiotics to eliminate the bacteria and reduce the risk of complications.
