Curettage and Electrodessication
Curettage and electrodessication are medical procedures used to treat skin growths or lesions. Curettage involves scraping away abnormal tissue using a sharp, spoon-shaped instrument called a curette. Electrodessication uses a small electric current to dry out and destroy remaining abnormal cells after curettage. Together, these methods effectively remove skin lesions, such as warts, basal cell carcinomas, or other growths, by physically removing the tissue and cauterizing the area to minimize bleeding and reduce the chance of recurrence. The procedure is typically quick and performed under local anesthesia in a clinical setting.
