Cultural repression

Cultural repression occurs when a government or dominant group suppresses or discourages the expression of certain cultural practices, languages, traditions, or beliefs. This often happens to control or erase a specific group's identity, making it difficult for them to freely celebrate or maintain their cultural heritage. Such repression can involve censorship, restrictions on gatherings, or even punishment for cultural activities, leading to diminished cultural diversity and the loss of unique community identities. It reflects an attempt to homogenize society by limiting the visibility and influence of specific cultural groups.
