Culex mosquitoes

Culex mosquitoes are a common group of mosquitoes known for transmitting diseases like West Nile virus and, in some regions, other illnesses. They are typically active during evening and nighttime hours and prefer breeding sites such as standing water in urban, suburban, and rural areas—like clogged gutters, ponds, and birdbaths. These mosquitoes have a slender body with a capped proboscis used for feeding on blood, primarily from birds and humans. Controlling Culex populations involves eliminating standing water and using protective measures like screens and repellents to reduce the risk of bites and disease transmission.
