Cuban Independence

Cuban independence refers to Cuba's liberation from Spanish colonial rule, achieved after a prolonged struggle beginning in the late 19th century. The Cuban War of Independence (1895-1898) was a major effort by Cubans seeking self-rule. It culminated in the Spanish-American War, when the United States intervened and defeated Spain. Following Spain’s defeat, Cuba officially gained formal independence in 1902, though the U.S. maintained significant influence over its affairs for years. This independence marked Cuba’s emergence as a sovereign nation, ending centuries of colonial dominance and enabling it to govern itself.
