Cuauhtémoc Cárdenas is a prominent Mexican politician and engineer who played a key role in Mexico's political reform movement. Born in 1934, he was the son of a former president and became a leading figure in advocating for democracy, transparency, and social justice. As a founder of the Party of the Democratic Revolution (PRD), he challenged traditional politics and promoted greater citizen participation. Cárdenas was also the first non-institutional candidate to run for president through a legitimate, competitive process in decades, significantly influencing Mexico’s transition toward a more democratic system.
