CTE

CTE, or Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy, is a progressive brain disease linked to repeated head injuries, often seen in athletes involved in contact sports. It results from the buildup of a protein called tau, which can damage brain cells over time. Symptoms may include memory loss, mood swings, and impaired judgment. CTE is diagnosed posthumously through brain tissue examination, meaning it cannot be definitively identified while a person is alive. Increased awareness has led to discussions about the safety of contact sports and the long-term health of athletes.
