CTD (Conductivity, Temperature, and Depth) Sensor
A CTD sensor is a device used by scientists to measure three important properties of water: conductivity (how well the water conducts electricity, which relates to salinity or saltiness), temperature, and depth (how deep the sensor is below the surface). These measurements help us understand ocean conditions, like how salty or cold the water is at various depths. CTD sensors are often lowered into the water on a cable during research cruises, providing vital data that contributes to studying oceanography, climate change, and marine ecosystems.
