CSF shunt
A CSF (cerebrospinal fluid) shunt is a medical device that helps drain excess fluid from the brain or spinal cord to another part of the body, like the stomach or chest. This prevents the fluid buildup that can cause increased pressure inside the skull, which may lead to headaches, vomiting, or other problems. The shunt typically includes a small tube (catheter) and a valve to control the flow, ensuring the fluid is safely diverted. It’s commonly used to treat conditions like hydrocephalus, where too much cerebrospinal fluid accumulates in the brain.
