CSF cytology

CSF cytology involves examining cerebrospinal fluid (CSF), the clear fluid surrounding the brain and spinal cord, under a microscope. This test helps detect abnormal cells, infections, or diseases affecting the central nervous system. A small sample of CSF is collected via a lumbar puncture (spinal tap), processed, and then examined by a trained pathologist or lab specialist. The results can reveal conditions such as infections, inflammation, bleeding, or cancer involving the nervous system, aiding in accurate diagnosis and guiding appropriate treatment.
