Crystal synovitis
Crystal synovitis is an inflammatory joint condition caused by the accumulation of tiny crystal particles—usually uric acid or calcium pyrophosphate—in the joint fluid. These crystals trigger an immune response, leading to sudden, intense pain, swelling, redness, and warmth in the affected joint, often the big toe or knee. It is commonly associated with gout or pseudogout. The condition can recur if underlying causes aren’t managed, but treatments like medications and lifestyle changes can help reduce symptoms and prevent future episodes.
