Crown and the Barons

In medieval England, the “Crown” refers to the monarch or king/queen who held ultimate authority over the land, law, and governance. “Barons” were powerful nobles who held large estates granted by the Crown and owed military and financial duties in return. They acted as local rulers, advising the Crown and maintaining order in their regions. This relationship was governed by a hierarchy where the Crown relied on barons’ loyalty and military support, while barons gained land and influence. Over time, this dynamic shaped the development of feudal society and early legal systems.
