Crocodylus (crocodiles)

Crocodylus refers to the genus that includes true crocodiles, large aquatic reptiles found in rivers, lakes, and mangroves across parts of Africa, Australia, Southeast Asia, and the Americas. They are apex predators with powerful jaws, sharp teeth, and a stealthy hunting style. Crocodylus species are semi-aquatic, spending much of their time submerged to ambush prey such as fish, mammals, and birds. They have tough, armored skin and excellent senses for detecting movement and vibrations. As reptiles, they are ectothermic, relying on environmental heat to regulate their body temperature, and they play vital roles in their ecosystems.
