Critical GIS

Critical GIS is an approach to geographic information systems that explores how maps, spatial data, and geographic technologies influence society, power, and decision-making. It examines who controls geographic information, how it shapes perceptions of space, and its role in social justice, inequality, and policy. Essentially, Critical GIS encourages us to question and analyze the assumptions, biases, and impacts of spatial technologies, promoting more ethical and inclusive uses of geographic data. It highlights that maps and spatial information are not neutral tools but are intertwined with social and political contexts.
