Cristero War
The Cristero War (1926-1929) was a conflict in Mexico between the government, which implemented strict anti-clerical laws, and Catholic religious supporters who resisted these restrictions. The government aimed to limit the influence of the Catholic Church, leading to violence and rebellion. Catholic fighters, known as Cristeros, fought to defend religious freedoms and traditional church authority. The war resulted in significant loss of life and unrest, eventually ending with a negotiated settlement that eased some church restrictions, though tensions between church and state persisted.
