Crise d'Octobre
Crise d'Octobre, also known as the October Crisis, was a political crisis in Quebec in 1970 involving the Front de libération du Québec (FLQ), a militant separatist group. They kidnapped British diplomat James Cross and Quebec’s Minister of Labour, Pierre Laporte, to demand independence for Quebec and gain attention for their cause. The Canadian government invoked the War Measures Act, allowing widespread arrests and military presence, to restore order. The crisis highlighted tensions between Quebec’s desire for independence and Canada’s unity, leading to increased security measures and a shift in Quebec politics.
