Cretan Resistance

The Cretan Resistance was a movement of local Greeks on the island of Crete during Nazi occupation in World War II. Starting in 1941, Crete's residents organized to oppose and sabotage the occupying forces through acts like guerrilla attacks, hiding Allied soldiers, and disrupting German supply lines. This resistance was fueled by strong national pride and a desire for independence. Despite faced with severe crackdowns, their efforts helped weaken the occupiers' control and inspired continued opposition. The resistance became a symbol of Cretan resilience and the broader fight for Greek freedom during the war.
