Cretaceous
The Cretaceous period, lasting from about 145 to 66 million years ago, was the last era of the dinosaurs before they disappeared. It was a time of warm climate, rising sea levels, and diverse life, including flowering plants and marine creatures like ammonites. The breakup of the supercontinent Pangaea continued, shaping Earth's continents. This period ended with a massive extinction event, likely caused by an asteroid impact and volcanic activity, which led to the extinction of the dinosaurs and many other species, paving the way for mammals to become more dominant.
