Crenshaw Intersectionality Theory

Crenshaw's Intersectionality Theory, proposed by scholar Kimberlé Crenshaw, emphasizes that individuals have multiple identities—such as race, gender, class, and sexuality—that intersect and shape their experiences of discrimination and privilege. Rather than considering these identities separately, intersectionality highlights how they interact in complex ways, creating unique challenges for individuals. For instance, a Black woman may face obstacles that are different from those experienced by Black men or white women. Understanding intersectionality allows for a more nuanced view of social injustice and helps develop more effective strategies for addressing inequality.
